Texas has always been a state that has plenty of laws backed by a massive will to enforce them. An excitement about enforcement that could be considered quite gung-ho in comparison to other states.
A person could find themselves sentenced by the court for a term in jail that can last at least 180 days if convicted of DWI for only the first time. And, as far as fines are concerned, an unlucky bastard could find themselves paying up to 2,000.00 in monetary fines if they are caught by police and are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A second DWI offense can cost someone up to $4k in fines, and up to one year in jail.
Felony DWI charges, or a third offense, could be worth a fine of up to $10k depending on the court. This is in addition to a criminal record that will plague you, not to mention a prison sentence of up 2 years in jail.
Anything punishment more harsh than that will be left to the discretion of a judge.
